FOSTER CARE PAYMENTS CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT
INFORMATION FOR FEDERAL AND STATE OFFICIALS
This web page provides information for State officials who were served with notice pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1715 of a proposed settlement in a federal class action lawsuit that may affect class members residing in their states, and for the Attorney General of the United States.
The name of the lawsuit is Sheehey, et al. v Bhanot, Case No. CV13-00663 LEK-KSC, and is usually referred to by its original case name, Ah Chong v. McManaman.
Below you will find links to some of the documents from the lawsuit, including the Complaint, the First Amended Complaint, and the proposed Federal Lawsuit Class Action Settlement Agreement.
UPDATE AS OF APRIL 28, 2017: It appears the Hawaii Legislature will not be appropriating the funds needed for the settlement during this 2017 legislative session, which ends May 4. The court has vacated the Fairness Hearing currently scheduled for May 8, 2017. Also vacated is the hearing on the Plaintiffs’ motion for attorneys’ fees and costs. The court has ordered the parties to submit a joint status report on May 12, 2017. We will provide additional updates on this web page.
