PF Key Standards

The PF keys listed below are standard across the entire JJIS System. PF Keys appropriate to each screen are displayed. PF Keys appropriate to a user’s level of security are displayed.

  • <PF1> Help/F             This function has not been implemented.
  • <PF2> Help/S             This function has not been implemented.
  • <PF3> Prev Menu

Displays the menu associated with a screen. For example, if the user presses <PF3> on the DEMO screen, the Demographic Information Menu will display.  If the user presses <PF3> on the APPR screen the Offense Information Menu will display.

  • <PF4> List

Pick list screens are usually made available when three or more code choices are possible.  These codes can be displayed on screens called a “pick list” by pressing <PF4> while the cursor is in the desired field.

For example, if the cursor is in the DISPO field of the APPADD screen and <PF4> is pressed, a screen will display available disposition codes for that agency.

A user may need to page forward on a “pick list” screen in order to see all available codes. Most pick lists allow entering a few letters to shorten the list being returned.  The user is advised to use fewer letters than the field contains.  JJIS screens automatically move the cursor to the next field when a field is completely filled in.

To select a code from a “pick list” screen the user places the cursor on the line with the code and presses <Enter>.  The code will be returned to the field which was used with <PF4> to bring up the “pick list” screen. Subsequent pages that refer to screens will define the fields with <PF4> “pick list” capability as follows: Pick list available: field-1, field-2, field-3, and field-4.

  • <PF5> Refresh             This function has not been implemented.
  • <PF6> GO TO

Navigates to the desired screen when the user types the screen abbreviation in the GO TO field and presses <PF6> .

  • <PF7> Page Backwards/Previous

Displays previous pages of information for the screen you are on. Once you reach the first page of information, you can no longer page backward.

  • <PF8> Page Forward/Next

Displays subsequent pages pages of information for the screen you are on.  Paging forward is only allowed when a screen shows MORE: Y.

  • <PF9> Confirm            (For Update Screens)

This is used to confirm a particular action, such as updating information to the database.  The user is required to press <PF9> twice in order to confirm the update is being requested.

  • <PF10>           JJIS Defined

Please see the individual screens for usage.

  • <PF11>           JJIS Defined

Please see the individual screens for usage.

  • <PF12>           Return

The current screen is ended and the screen which immediately preceded it is displayed  (i.e. Return to previous screen).  The system remembers 10 previous screens.

Note:  <PF12> redisplays a previous screen with the earlier data.  If you have done an update and use <PF12> to return to a screen, you may not see the results of your update.

Use <SHIFT> <PF-11>  (Go to Search) to reinitiate a search if you wish to see the results of your update.

  • <PF13>           Delete

When given appropriate security access, certain users can delete records on charges, arrests, programs, and juveniles.

  • <PF14-22>      Vacant
  • <PF23>           GO TO SEARCH

This provides an immediate GO TO SEARCH from all JJIS screens. For screens with function keys that only go up to PF12, press <Shift>-<F11> for PF23.

  • ENTER

This submits data to the system for processing.  The next screen in the hierarchy is displayed unless a confirmation is required for a database update (<PF9>=Confirm).  This is used on the Search for Juvenile by Name/ID/Demographic and Search for Juvenile Summary screens to initiate a search.  This can also be used on menus to display a user’s selection.

SCREEN FUNCTIONALITY

  • CLEAR

This exits JJIS and displays “END OF SESSION”.

  • ERRORS

This displays errors on the MESSAGE line.

  • GO TO FASTPATH

“GO TO” allows a direct move from one screen to another by way of the desired screen ID.  It is an efficient way to access screens.  To invoke the “GO TO”, the screen ID is entered in the GO TO field and the <PF6> key is pressed.  “GO TO” does not access Detail screens that require the user to first display a Summary screen.

  • MORE

This is a field that indicates whether more than one page is available.  More: ‘Y’, <PF7> and <PF8> will be displayed for the user.

  • NAMES

Names are always displayed “Last Name” first, followed by a comma and the “First Name”, then a space and the “Middle Name”.

  • DATES

All date fields are formatted as  MM  DD  YYYY, using leading zeroes (i.e., 07 05 1999).

  • TIMES

All time fields are in 4 positions of military time: 0001 through 2400 (leading zeroes required).

  • MENU SCREENS

A user must key in one of the menu options and press <Enter>.

  • SUMMARY/SELECTION SCREENS

Initial cursor position is at the selection block of the first summary line.  By moving the cursor down a selection column and pressing <PF10> the detail for that row is selected and displayed.
