Effective Grant Writing = Effective Projects Training

What:  A basic lesson on writing a grant application (problem statement, goal and objectives, program activities, performance indicators, and budget).  The goal of a well written grant is two-fold: 1) it may result in an award to do the work of your agency and 2) it is a blueprint to implement an effective project. This training is specific to grant solicitations issued by CPJAD.

Trainer: Grants and Planning Branch staff

Target Audience:  Any agency interested in submitting an application to the Department of the Attorney General, Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division, Grants and Planning Branch.

Requirements/Instructions:  Download the Effective Grant Writing Effective Projects Training Recording (see link below). Download the Effective Grant Writing Effective Projects Training Handouts Packet for reference (see link below). You must play the training in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 or newer. Each slide is recorded separately so you can skip slides or play slides back. The training is about an hour of recorded slides; however, the training will take 1.5 – 2 hours if you complete all the exercises.

  • Understand the concept of the Project Effectiveness Model
  • Prepare for writing a grant proposal for CPJAD
  • Develop a clear and concise problem/need statement
  • Develop goals that will guide the solution to your problem/need statement
  • Identify SMART objectives
  • Understand how the problem statement, goals, and objectives work together
  • Implement activities that will successfully highlight your objectives
  • Develop meaningful performance indicators
  • Understand how objectives, activities, and performance indicators work together
  • Highlight the impact your project has on the problem statement
  • Develop a budget detail and explanation that outlines the costs for a successful project
  • Gather helpful resources to guide you in effective grant writing and project administration
  • Understand the do’s and don’ts of grant writing
